Sure, you know Snowshoe for winter fun and summer mountain biking, but have you ever played disc golf at Snowshoe?? There are actually TWO great courses on the mountain and both are free!
The first course starts at Old Spruce Brewing next to Snow Creek Mountain Sports and is good. But we're here to talk about the full 18 hole Fairy Diddle course. Let's get into it:
- Location: Shavers Lake
- Getting there:
- Ride Ballhooter lift down to the lake*
- Bike down the basin*
- Take the shuttle to Shavers Lake
- Drive down Shavers lake road (best/only option off season)
- Gear: Bring your own discs or get them at the Lake Outpost
- Difficulty level: the PDGA ranks the course as Intermediate
The course begins and ends right in the Shavers Lake parking area. It's a perfect set up. The front 9 wind through the rooty and mossy spruce forest and is where we're pretty sure we saw some of the creatures the course is named after flitting between the trees. The back 9 walks you through some of the basin territory with some gorgeous scenery.
The course is well marked and fun to walk, but you do have to pay attention a little to make sure you head the right direction to the next tee box. Never played? If you go in with a good attitude, this can be a great place to start! The density of trees can be tough if you're really trying to go pro from the jump, so just go to have fun. Our kids really enjoyed it as their first official course.
So, bring your discs (we like these) the next time you're at Snowshoe Resort. And have some fairy fun.
